Banana Cream Trifle

Layered banana pudding trifle with vanilla wafers, fresh bananas, and fluffy whipped topping

INGREDIENTS

Vanilla pudding layer

  • 2 packages instant vanilla pudding mix 3.4 oz each
  • 3 cups cold whole milk
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk 14 oz
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt.

Whipped topping

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream cold
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar.

Assembly

  • 5 to 6 medium ripe bananas sliced
  • 12 oz vanilla wafer cookies
  • 2 tbsp crushed vanilla wafers for topping
  • banana slices for garnish.

INSTRUCTIONS

Make pudding base

  • Beat cream cheese until smooth
  • whisk in sweetened condensed milk until fully combined
  • whisk in milk then pudding mix and vanilla and salt until thickened
  • refrigerate 10 minutes to set.

Whip cream

  • Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar to medium stiff peaks.

Assemble and chill

  • Fold half of whipped cream into pudding to lighten
  • layer vanilla wafers then banana slices then pudding mixture then remaining whipped cream in a trifle dish repeating until used
  • finish with whipped cream and crushed wafers
  • cover and refrigerate at least 240 minutes before serving.

Notes

1. Use just ripe bananas for best texture 2. Brush banana slices with a little lemon juice to slow browning 3. Substitute pound cake or ladyfingers for wafers 4. For a lighter version use 2 percent milk and whipped topping 5. Make up to 24 hours ahead for best set
