INGREDIENTS

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp fine salt.

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract.

Mix ins

  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips optional.

INSTRUCTIONS

Prep and Mix

  • heat oven to 350 F and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment leaving overhang then lightly grease
  • whisk flour cocoa baking powder and salt until evenly combined
  • whisk melted butter brown sugar and granulated sugar until smooth and glossy
  • whisk in eggs and vanilla until fully blended
  • fold dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined and no dry streaks remain
  • fold in chocolate chips reserving a small handful for topping if desired.

Bake and Cool

  • spread batter evenly in prepared pan and sprinkle reserved chips on top
  • bake until edges look set and center is slightly soft with moist crumbs on a toothpick 20 to 25 minutes
  • cool completely in pan for clean slices then lift out and cut into bars.

Notes

1. For thicker bars use a 9x9 inch pan and bake 25 to 30 minutes; Do not overbake for fudgy texture as carryover heat finishes the center; Swap half the chocolate chips for chopped walnuts or pecans; For extra brownie flavor add 1 tsp espresso powder to the dry ingredients; Store airtight at room temperature up to 4 days or freeze up to 2 months
