Chocolate Pudding Dessert Trifle

INGREDIENTS

Brownie Layer

  • 1 box fudge brownie mix 18 to 19 oz
  • ingredients called for on box usually 2 large eggs 1 4 cup vegetable oil 1 4 cup water.

Pudding Layer

  • 2 packages instant chocolate pudding mix 3 4 oz each
  • 3 cups cold whole milk.

Cream Layer

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract.

Crunch and Garnish

  • 20 chocolate sandwich cookies crushed about 2 cups
  • 1 2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • chocolate shavings for garnish
  • toffee bits optional.

INSTRUCTIONS

Bake and Cool

  • prepare brownie batter per package directions
  • bake in a 9x13 inch pan until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs 22 to 28 minutes
  • cool completely then cut into 3 4 inch cubes.

Pudding and Cream

  • whisk pudding mix with cold milk for 2 minutes until thickened then chill 5 minutes
  • whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla to stiff peaks.

Assemble and Chill

  • in a 3 to 4 quart trifle dish or large glass bowl layer 1 3 brownies then 1 3 pudding then 1 3 whipped cream then a sprinkle of crushed cookies and mini chocolate chips
  • repeat layers two more times finishing with whipped cream and toppings
  • cover and chill at least 2 hours and up to 24 hours before serving.

Notes

1. Use store bought brownies or chocolate cake to reduce cook time to 0 minutes; Swap instant pudding for cooked pudding but cool fully before layering; For a lighter version use whipped topping or half whipped topping and half whipped cream; Add sliced bananas or raspberries between layers; Keep cookies on top until serving for maximum crunch
