Sandwich Pull-Apart Bread

INGREDIENTS

Bread and fillings

  • 1 round sourdough loaf 24 oz
  • 8 oz deli ham sliced
  • 8 oz Swiss cheese sliced
  • 4 oz shredded mozzarella
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped green onions
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley.

Butter glaze

  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper.

INSTRUCTIONS

Prep and assemble

  • Preheat oven to 375 F and line a baking sheet with foil
  • cut the loaf into a 1 inch crosshatch pattern without cutting through the bottom crust
  • spread Dijon mustard and mayonnaise into the cuts using a small spatula or brush
  • tuck ham and Swiss into the cuts then sprinkle mozzarella
  • green onions
  • and parsley evenly over the top and into gaps.

Bake and serve

  • Stir melted butter
  • olive oil
  • garlic
  • Italian seasoning
  • salt
  • and pepper then drizzle and brush over the loaf letting it seep into the cuts
  • wrap the loaf loosely in foil and bake 15 minutes
  • uncover and bake 5 minutes or until cheese is fully melted and the top is lightly crisped
  • rest 5 minutes then pull apart and serve warm.

Notes

1. Use a sturdy crusty boule to prevent tearing 2. swap ham for turkey salami or roast beef 3. swap Swiss for provolone pepper jack or cheddar 4. add sliced pickles or banana peppers after baking for crunch 5. bake covered longer if the loaf is very dense 6. reheat leftovers wrapped in foil at 350 F until warm
